What is Classic Rock?

Classic Rock as a popular category or classification of music shall be explained in the context of the ICS Tribute concert. The moment you hear these two words - Classic Rock- you might wonder why these terms are applied to all your favourite bands from the 60s or 70s? There are many different interpretations of Classic Rock and if you scour the internet to find a possible answer, you'll most likely end up reading through discussions of people trying to categorize their favourite band as Classic Rock or Heavy Metal, Progressive Rock, etc.

To begin with, let's look up both these words in the dictionary:

Classic: (adjective) judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.
Rock: it is a derivation from rock and roll, which can be described as a form of popular music characterized by a heavy beat and simple melodies.
Now, when we put both together, we are celebrating music that has a heavy beat and simplehummable melodies that have been judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind (subjective).
Classic Rock can also be attributed to music mainly created using riffs and songs that feature some inimitable guitar solos. The electric guitar certainly has its fair share of representation in rock music because it was the symbol of rock music throughout the 60s and until now.
The ICOM Tribute band has chosen a range of songs that represent the best of American Classic rock, British Classic Rock and Female Rock from the 60s and 70s. The repertoire selection has been made on the basis of the song popularity as well as the musical contributions of the artists.
So, we hope you now have an idea as to what Classic Rock is in the context of our ICS Tribute Concert.
